Context
Visitors to Vietnam have to piece together several separate tasks: applying for an e-visa, finding tours, booking services, buying an eSIM. VietEntry brings them into one app, for users who speak five different languages.
Problems & solutions
- 01
Filling in the e-visa form from a passport photo
The e-visa form is long, and people mistype passport numbers. The app reads the passport on the device with ML Kit and fills in the form — recognition runs on the phone, so the passport image doesn't have to be uploaded just to read its text.
- 02
Five languages, including Japanese, Korean and Chinese
Localisation goes beyond interface strings. Content such as tours and services changes with the language too, so the Laravel side has translatable content models and the app has a localisation layer for English, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
- 03
Payments, notifications and sign-in for international users
Payments run through Stripe rather than a domestic gateway, since the users are international visitors. Push notifications use Firebase Cloud Messaging with Notifee, with Google and Apple sign-in. Documents are stored offline-first so they still open without a connection.
- 04
Backend
JWT and Sanctum authentication, Stripe integration, Excel export, AWS services, and AI-assisted features built on the Anthropic API.
Outcomes
- From first commit to a published release on both the App Store and Google Play in under two months.
- Live on both stores today.
